Over the next six weeks we are carrying out research in Crook, Willington, Tow Law, Bowburn, Durham City, Stanley and Newton Aycliffe. NEMS will be contacting people who live in these areas to conduct telephone surveys as well as using professional market research interviewers to ask people in the streets for their views to help us shape the Levelling Up Fund bids to central government.

Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plans

The County Durham Strategic Cycling and Walking Delivery Plan 2019-2029 includes an action to create Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plans (LCWIPs) for the 12 main towns across the county. LCWIPs are a new, strategic approach to identifying cycling and walking improvements and form a vital part of the Government's aim of increasing walking and cycling. We have already worked with the consultants WSP to create LCWIPs for Durham City, Chester-le-Street and Newton Aycliffe. We are now working with them to produce the remaining nine for Barnard Castle, Bishop Auckland, Consett, Crook, Peterlee, Seaham, Spennymoor, Shildon and Stanley.

A key feature in the development and delivery of LCWIPs is the need to talk to community groups, businesses and other interested parties to understand your experiences of walking and cycling throughout the county and how we could encourage people to do it more often. To help with this, we are carrying out workshops for the nine remaining towns, throughout May.

Our Big Econ-versation

The economy means different things to different people.

It's about how much money we take home, the quality of our high streets, the opportunities available to our children, and the kinds of jobs that are out there. The economy also matters for our businesses - influencing whether we have the right people with the right skills to fill jobs, and the opportunities for businesses to be successful.

We'd like to have a conversation with you about the economy, talking about the things that really matter to you. We are then going to gather together everything you tell us and use it to develop an economic strategy for everyone across County Durham. Your views, experiences and ambitions will help us create the kind of economy we need for the lives we want to lead.
