The Health Secretary has set out the next steps in the fight against Coronavirus. See the press conference at Youtube: Coronavirus press conference (19 January 2022).

In line the Government's 'Plan B' to slow the spread of the Omicron variant of Coronavirus, face coverings must be worn by staff and users in your local library. Exemptions include anyone with a health condition or disability, and those under the age of 11. Face coverings may only be removed while eating.

We want your views on what your need from County Durham libraries and how library services should be delivered in the future - see Durham Libraries For You: get involved .

Library Online

Use Library Online to join the library, browse our library catalogue, emagazines, enewspapers, ecomics or request an item or renew an item already on loan.

Visit Library Online to log in or register.

With Library Online you get free access to a range of websites including British Standards Online, Oxford Dictionary of National Biography, Grove Music Online, Who's Who, Encyclopaedia Britannica Online, emagazines, eaudiobooks and ebooks.

As a member or a guest

You will be able to search our online catalogue for books and audiobooks (spoken word), emagazines, enewspapers and ecomics.

As a member

You can:

  • reserve items you find on the catalogue
  • renew items you currently have on loan. If there is a problem - for example an item is wanted by another user - the system will tell you that it cannot be renewed
  • record (or change) your email address - we can then inform you of the availability of requested items and send you an electronic reminder as soon as items you have on loan become overdue
  • book one of our public access internet PCs in any of our libraries
  • download ebooks, eaudiobooks, emagazines, enewspapers and ecomics
  • find out when and where the mobile library stops

Happy reading!
