Walk Durham
If you want to take your first steps in improving your health and fitness, or if you just want to stay healthy, come along and try our free, short wellbeing walks. The walks take place every week in local communities across County Durham.
Walk Durham is your local accredited Ramblers Wellbeing Walks partner. We offer a programme of free, short, weekly walks in local communities across County Durham. The walks are a great opportunity for you to make your first steps towards being active and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Whether you are recovering from illness, or just want to be more active and enjoy walking outdoors in the company of others, Walk Durham can help you get started.

You will need to create a free Wellbeing Activity membership using the Leisure Hub system before you can join a walk.
- Visit sign up for or book a wellbeing activity online and follow the instructions to register.
- Select the free 'wellbeing membership' as your membership type.
- Pick up your thrive card from one of our leisure centres, a sign up session or your walk leader.
- Please remember to bring your thrive card with you to each walk you attend.
Gentle Steps to Walking
These walks are delivered in a flat, enclosed and safe environment, supported by our friendly team. You can walk at your own pace and rest whenever you need to. Gentle Steps walks are great for helping you to build up your confidence and activity levels at your own pace.

Get Walk Ready
These short walks are designed to ease you back into our walking programme. All routes offered will be on flat paths and carried out at a gentle pace. They are led by our friendly trained instructors and last approximately 45-60 minutes.

Wellbeing Walks
These walks cover various terrain and routes are relatively flat, however some routes may include slopes, steps, uneven surfaces and stiles. They are led by our friendly, trained instructors and last up to approximately 90 minutes.

Attending a walk
Simply turn up five minutes before the walk start time and show your thrive card to the leader. Please dress accordingly for the weather and wear comfortable footwear. You may also want to bring along any personal items that you need, including a drink.
