Due to essential maintenance, the following systems will be unavailable from 3.00pm on Friday 31 March until 8.00am Monday 3 April 2023: our online council tax, business rates and housing benefit services, and our welfare assistance form. You will also not be able to register to pay council tax online, make a change of address for council tax or cancel single person discount. You are still able to make a payment during this time. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Free afternoon parking in Durham City's on-street pay and display bays will come to an end on Friday 31 March 2023 at 6.00pm and normal charges will apply from Saturday 1 April 2023. All council owned car parks will continue to offer free parking after 2.00pm. This does not include Durham City Park and Ride, Hardwick Park, Wharton Park and Riverside Park (South Ropery Lane, North Ropery Lane and the Donald Owen Clark car parks) and car parks that we do not own.

From Wednesday 25 January 2023, the bus stop on Claypath will be out of use. All passengers travelling on the PR1 bus to Belmont Park and Ride will need to board the bus at Leazes Road Underpass (Stand B).

Coach drop-offs and pick-ups

Coach drop-off and pick-ups are at Freeman's Place. From Freeman's Place you can walk up to the city centre, or catch the Durham Cathedral Bus, which operates from the bus stop at Freeman's Place.  

Information for coach drivers

Once you have dropped your passengers off at Freeman's Place, coach parking is at our Belmont Park and Ride site. This coach park is situated on the A690, approximately 300m east of Junction 62 of the A1 (10 minutes from Durham City centre).

Parking is free and coach drivers have access to toilets and facilities for cleaning coaches. There are spaces for 30 coaches. The petrol station, which has a 'Costa' facility is approximately 100m east of the coach park (on the A690). 

Coach drivers have free travel in and out of Durham City centre from this coach park on our Durham City Park and Ride service. This free travel is available from 7.00am until 7.00pm, Monday to Saturday (on Sundays this service is not available).

At the end of your visit, return to the city centre to pick up your passengers.
