October half term events
The Dead Good Trail
Date: Thursday 24 October to Sunday 3 November
Time: Drop into the cafe to collect a trail sheet between 10.00am and 4.00pm correct change required.
Cost/booking: £1 per child no booking required, drop in on the day but children must be accompanied by an adult.
Details: Inspired by the Day of the Dead, collect your sheet and search for the items hidden around the park. What can you learn about Mexican traditions relating to this special festival? Seek the items and find out.
Date: Tuesday 29 October
Time: 11.00am - 3.00pm
Cost/booking: £3 per child no booking required, drop in on the day but children must be accompanied by an adult.
Details: Children can join us to create and make creepy crafts in our Halloween themed art and craft drop in workshop. All materials provided and we will clean up the mess.
Date: Monday 28 October
Time: 10.00am - 11.30am and 1.00pm - 2.30pm
Cost/booking: £8.50 per child, children must be accompanied by an adult. Contact us to book.
Details: Are you ready for a bone rattling adventure this half term? Then why not sign up to Skeleton School? This session is packed full of games, challenges and creative activities all themed around skeletons, bones and Day of the Dead. A great Halloween treat.
Family Fright Night - The Gravest Show
Date: Friday 1 November
Time: 4.00pm - 5.30pm (dusk show), 7.00pm - 8.30pm (evening show)
Cost/booking: Tickets are on sale £12 per person (under 3s free) £45 Family Ticket (two adults and up to three children under 16). Book tickets for Family Fright Night.
Details: Let's Circus return to Wharton Park's amphitheatre with a brand new Halloween Circus show for the whole family. This will be the fourth year they have taken to the stage to treat families to a spooky show with lots of tricks. Let's Circus will entertain you with their fantastic high level circus skills with a night of good old fashioned entertainment for the family. Previous years have been a sell out so don't delay in booking your tickets. Fancy dress is encouraged but please dress for the weather. There is limited seating in the amphitheatre so blankets and camping chairs are advisable as is a torch. Additional parking for the event is available at County Hall.
Wharton's festive stocking trail
Date: Between 30 November 2019 and 4 January 2020.
Cost/booking: £1 per trail sheet, available from the cafe between 10.00am and 4.00pm.
Details: Join our festive park trail and take part in the excitement of discovering what Santa has put in the stockings.
Christmas Corner: festive stories (We're going on an Elf Chase, Snowball, Stickman)
Date: Sundays 1, 8 and 15 December.
Time: 1.00pm - 2.30pm
Cost/booking: £4 per child. Children must be accompanied by an adult. contact us - booking essential.
Details: Join us in the education room and get all festive with a cosy story. The perfect way to spend a chilly weekend afternoon. Sessions include story time, festive trail and a themed Christmas craft activity. Children are encouraged to come in fancy dress, a Christmas jumper or pyjamas.
Date: Saturday 7, 14 and 21 December
Time: 10.00am- 11.30am and 1.00pm - 2.30pm (Saturday 21 December 1.00pm - 2.30pm only)

Details: Father Christmas is sending his favourite Elf to Wharton Park this December to deliver Elf School. Join Jingle who will teach children how to be a first class elf through a series of exciting games and activities. Jingle's challenges will include an introduction to disguise and surprise, elf and safety training, how to prepare the perfect glitter free snack for reindeers, gift presentation and speed sorting skills. Once each child completes Jingle's intensive training school they will graduate with an Honours in Elfery, receiving a certificate and award for their hard work. Suitable for younger and older children but younger ones may need help from an adult with some of the activities.
Christmas Corner with Santa: The Night Before Christmas
Date: Sunday 22 December
Time: One hour time slots available between 10am and 2.30pm.
Cost/booking: £10.50 per child. Places are limited. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Contact us - booking is essential.
Details: Children can join us for a very special Christmas Corner story read by Santa himself. He will read The Night Before Christmas while children snuggle up with a hot chocolate and a cookie. Santa will give each child a gift. The session will end with a workshop where children can make environmentally friendly reindeer food to take home. Why not have a go at our festive trail sheet?
Date: The sessions will run from Friday 13 September bi monthly
Time: 1.00pm - 2.30pm
Cost/booking: £3 per child per session. contact us - all bookings need to be made in advance.
Details: It's time to take your little explorer on a mini adventure. These sessions are ideal for under 5's giving them the opportunity to get outdoors and explore the park. They will search for signs of plant and animal life, collect natural materials and take part in a range of other seasonal activities. Children will be given the freedom to explore nature and use it to create their own artwork, search for signs of life in the park with some bird spotting and mini beast hunting, take inspiration from the weather with themed play and crafts and plant some new life to watch it grow.
Baby class - Wharton Park's Tiny Toes
Date: Every Friday, term time only.
Time: 10.00am - 11.30am.
Cost/booking: £24 for six weeks. To book, contact us.
Details: A relaxed six week programme for babies from birth to approximately 13 month. Sessions take place in our education room with a different theme each week. There is careful balance between structured activity and self-led exploration so that as new parents you can connect with each other sharing experiences and offering support.
