Transformation of Peterlee Leisure Centre

Refurbishment works at Peterlee Leisure Centre started in January. 

Refurbishment works

Our plans include:

• Moving the gym to a new space within the centre to create a new dedicated fitness suite. This will include new equipment and improved group exercise spaces. 
• Creation of a new adventure play to encourage children and young people to be more active and have fun. This will also include a new food and drink facility. 
• The addition of a new ten pin bowling centre.
• Refurbishment of the swimming pool plant and environmental improvements to the buildings heating system.

Plan of works

The new look leisure centre will involve a significant works programme which will be carried out in carefully planned phases to try and minimise disruption. 

The first phase of the works started on Monday 9 January 2023 and focuses on the creation of the new gym area, new adventure play, and ten pin bowling. This will mean that the sports hall area will need to close and remain closed for the duration of the work.

Gym

The gym will remain open throughout the works, however, there will be some disruption such as changes to the entrance and changing facilities. We will update you on these changes as and when they happen. There is a temporary entrance to the gym at the side of the building adjacent to the car park. Please note that showers will be unavailable during the refurbishment works.

Fitness Classes

Studio based fitness classes have been relocated to Peterlee Memorial Methodist Church, 4 Broadclose Court Castle Dene, Peterlee SR8 1AJ. You can also attend fitness classes at any of our other leisure centres and sign up or book a leisure activity in the usual way.

Alternatively, you can join our live and on demand classes at home by downloading the Mywellness app at Mywellness app. 

Swimming pool

The swimming pool area is temporarily closed for refurbishment works.
