Transformation of Spennymoor Leisure Centre and Library
Find out about our exciting Leisure Transformation plans for Spennymoor Leisure Centre.
We can now confirm that after careful planning we are ready to start refurbishment works at the leisure centre.
Our plans include:
- Moving the reception area to a centralised location within the building to allow easier access from the town centre.
- Relocation of the town's existing library into the leisure centre building. This will be a new space in the former café area.
- Upgrading the pool space to add even more fun and interaction. Our popular slide and waves feature will remain as they are.
- A new soft play facility to encourage children to be more active from an early age. There will also be a new café in this area providing food and drink for customers.
The new look leisure centre will involve a significant works programme which will be carried out in three key stages.
Phase one includes work on the new reception area, foyer and library space. This work is due to start from Monday 21 November. It is expected that the leisure centre will remain accessible for most activities during this phase.
Unfortunately, due to the location of the multi-sensory room it will need to temporarily close whilst works take place in that area of the centre. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
All other leisure facilities will remain open with some minor disruption such as a change in the location of activities on the site. The existing library will remain open until the new facility is ready.
Phase two and three
Phases two and three include works in the swimming pool and sports hall areas and are scheduled to take place in summer 2023. Both of these phases are likely to include some closures. We are working hard to keep this disruption to a minimum and we will update you on this nearer the time.
We would like to apologise in advance for any disruption at the leisure centre and thank you for your patience throughout the works. We will keep you updated as the works progress.
