Disability staff network
We seek to promote the abilities and qualities of people who have a disability, challenge attitudes and support people to lead the life they want and enable change.
If you consider yourself to have an impairment, cognitive difference, or long term health/medical condition, or have a specific interest in this area of work, then this group is for you!
We also welcome allies to join the network.
Our main areas of focus are:
- establishing a peer support network so that those new to the organisation or whose circumstances change have access to a "buddy" who can help them, and their managers, to get the right support in place as smoothly as possible.
- raising awareness and knowledge through a programme of events organised around dates such as International Day for People with Disabilities and Mental Health Awareness Week
- reviewing policies, accessibility of premises and systems, and availability of information in areas like reasonable adjustments and the Access to Work scheme.
If you are thinking of applying for a role at the council and would like to know more about the group or working for the council contact us.
