Grants available to help Covid recovery in Chester-le-Street

Published July 28, 2021 9.21am

Organisations and groups in Chester-le-Street and surrounding areas are being invited to bid for thousands of pounds worth of funding, to help their communities tackle the impacts of Covid.

More than £100,000 is available, through the Chester-le-Street and District Area Action Partnership (AAP), to fund projects which support residents and businesses to recover from the challenges of the Covid pandemic.

From helping people into work to improving physical and mental health, the AAP's Covid Restoration scheme will award grants, of £5,000 and over, to initiatives which aim to address a wide range of issues, targeted at the specific needs of individual areas.

Eligible projects

Grants will be considered for any project which helps build stronger and resilient communities, including, but not restricted to those which:

•    Increase employability
•    Provide advice and guidance
•    Encourage physical activity, and support positive mental health and wellbeing
•    Help to make organisations sustainable
•    Provide food and nutritional support
•    Tackle social isolation
•    Support the voluntary and community sector
•    Are third party or not-for-profit organisations which support small businesses

Building thriving communities

Cllr Elizabeth Scott, our Cabinet member for Economy and Partnerships, said: "Chester-le-Street and District AAP, along with our other thirteen AAPs across the county, have been working hard over the past year to help deliver schemes which deal with the challenges presented as a result of Covid. This funding will help us to continue that fantastic work, supporting people to counter the negative outcomes of the pandemic. It provides an opportunity to harness the brilliant local spirit that exists within our county, to build and sustain thriving communities.

"Covid restoration could mean a number of different things, depending on the environment which work is carried out in and there are lots of potential areas that groups could focus on. I would encourage organisations and groups to speak to the AAP and discuss potential project proposals, to find out if their initiatives would be eligible to receive a grant."

For an informal discussion or for further information about making an application, organisations can telephone 0758 447 9395 or 0758 447 9405 or email us

Applications for funding must be received by 5pm on Monday 13 September 2021.
