Have your say on a new active travel route in Newton Aycliffe
We want your thoughts on a scheme in Newton Aycliffe at A167 Moore Lane to St Cuthbert's Way and Aycliffe Village to offer increased walking and cycling space for everyday journeys.
Thank you to those who gave feedback on the scheme through responses to the survey, online and at feedback event. The feedback was positive and showed that the scheme was supported by those who responded.
Your feedback will be forwarded to the Department for Transport.
Background
We want to encourage people to travel on foot and by bike during the Covid-19 restrictions and into recovery. The government has made funding available to help with this.
Following the delivery of active travel schemes around Durham City in 2020, we have secured funding for a scheme in Newton Aycliffe.
The scheme
The two kilometre footpath and separate cycle route, which will be part of the Great North Cycleway, will help people to walk and cycle to work, school, to do their shopping or to take exercise.
We want to encourage all the people who have been walking, running and cycling during the lockdowns to continue to do so, as well as encouraging new people to take part.
Have your say
We want to know your thoughts on the scheme, whether you support it and how it will impact you, before we finalise our plans.
The closing date for comments was 5.00pm on Monday 1 March 2021.
What happens next
Consultation on this proposed scheme was undertaken in February 2021. Residents, businesses and a range of other interested parties were asked to share their views and complete our online survey. We also held an online workshop to share information and gather feedback. Feedback showed that 86% of respondents either strongly agreed or agreed with the proposals. As a result it has been decided that the work to undertake the scheme will go ahead from October 2021 to February 2022. There will be some disruption to access for vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists during the works. Please contact us if you would like more detailed information regarding the works or feedback we received.
