Pay multiple and Pay Policy Statement
Under the Localism Act 2011, all councils are required to prepare a pay policy statement.
Pay Policy Statement
The statement is a requirement under the government's Localism Act, which requires the council to detail how it pays staff, from chief officers to those on the lowest grades and the relationship between the pay of chief officers and other staff.
The
applies for the period 1 April 2021 to 31 March 2022.Pay Multiple 2021/22
The pay multiple is the ratio between the highest paid salary and the median salary of the whole of our workforce and is shown below:
- The median earnings figure for Durham County Council employees on 31 March 2022 for the financial year 2021/22: £23,953
- The highest paid Durham County Council employee at that date was paid £204,768
- The pay multiple for Durham County Council is £204,768 / £23,953 = 8.55
The LGA Guidelines recommend using a full-time equivalent salary and we have therefore used this approach.
