Information for walkers and cyclists during New Elvet works

During the works on New Elvet Bridge footpath 78 and cycleway NCN14 are being diverted. Our maps will help you understand the closures and the diversion routes.

Footpath diversion 78

From the east end of the footpath

  • Turn left onto Baths Bridge and cross the river
  • Exit Baths Bridge and turn right onto Elvet Waterside
  • Turn left onto Territorial Lane
  • At the junction turn right along Old Elvet
  • At the next junction with New Elvet cross the road and continue along Old Elvet Bridge to cross the river
  • Once across the river take the steps on the left, or to avoid the steps
    • Continue straight ahead until the arch before Market Cross Jewellers
    • Continue through the arch and follow the lane round and under the bridge and turn right as you rejoin the path from the steps
  • Follow the path with river on your right.

From the west end of the footpath

  • Follow the path with river to your left, to Old Elvet bridge
  • Go up the steps onto Elvet Bridge or to avoid the steps
    • Continue under the bridge and follow the lane until you come through an arch next to Market Cross Jewellers
  • Turn right and cross the bridge
  • Continue until you reach New Elvet and cross the road to continue up Old Elvet
  • Turn left into Territorial Lane
  • Turn right onto Elvet Waterside
  • Turn left onto Baths Bridge
  • Cross the river and exit Baths Bridge

Cycleway diversion NCN14

From the east

  • At Baths Bridge follow Pelaw Leazes Lane
  • Take the first left until it reaches the A690 Leazes Road
  • Turn left onto the footpath and continue alongside Leazes Road
  • Rejoin the cycleway and continue through the subway

From West

  • After leaving the subway turn right onto the footpath 
  • Continue alongside the A690 
  • Take the first right (no entry to vehicles) and follow the path down the bank
  • Turn right and follow Pelaw Leazes Lane until you reach Baths Bridge
  • Rejoin the cycleway
