Proposal to close the Trimdon Grange site of Bluebell Meadow Primary School

We are proposing to close the Trimdon Grange site of Bluebell Meadow Primary School on 31 August 2020.

Why has this been proposed?

Bluebell Meadow Primary School has two sites, one in Trimdon Village and one in Trimdon Grange. Bluebell Meadow Primary School was inspected by Ofsted in May 2019 and was judged as 'Inadequate'.  As a result, the school was issued with a directive 'Academy Order' by the Secretary of State requiring them to convert to academy status and be sponsored by an existing Multi-Academy Trust. The Department for Education (DfE) has secured Eden Academy Trust, Hartlepool as a sponsor and Bluebell Meadow Primary School is due to become part of that Multi Academy Trust (MAT) on 1 September 2020.

Since January 2020, all pupils with the exception of nursery pupils have been educated on the Trimdon Village site. This decision was taken by the trustees of the Multi-Academy Trust (Eden Academy Trust, Hartlepool) that the school will become part of, and Governors of Bluebell Meadow Primary School. This arrangement is working well and means that now there are only nursery pupils and two-year olds (38 in total) at the Trimdon Grange site.

The council, with the full support of Eden Academy Trust, Hartlepool proposes to close the Trimdon Grange site, so that all pupils can be taught on the same site in Trimdon Village.

Decision

At the meeting of 8 July 2020, our Cabinet in its role as decision maker agreed the proposal to close the Trimdon Grange site of Bluebell Meadow Primary School on 31 August 2020.

The reasons given for agreeing the proposal were to ensure the viability of the school and because of the educational benefits of teaching all pupils on a single site.
