Projects funded 2021/22

Support for Small Businesses - In 2020/21 the AAP allocated funding to the CDC Enterprise Agency to deliver Plan B - a business support programme through which 25 businesses received bespoke one to one coaching and practical support. The aim was to support businesses to redesign their business models allowing them to thrive in a post Covid economy.

Town Centre Projects - Covid Recovery funding was awarded to Chester-le-Street & District Business Association to support the continuation of the successful business promotion campaign 'Shop Chester-le-Street'. Funding was also used to embed 'Roam' in Chester-le-Street. Roam is an award-winning social networking travel app designed to increase footfall for businesses, such as shops, cafes, bars and cultural venues.

Organisational Sustainability and Support for the Voluntary and Community Sector - Covid recovery funding was allocated to a number of projects under this theme including: funding for a dedicated finance officer at Bullion Community Resource Centre who will split their time between four charities - Bullion Community Resource Centre, Wheels to Work, Integrating Children and Culture 4 Kids, capital works at Fencehouses Community Centre, kitchen refurbishment at The Beacon Community Hub and a scheme to incentivise organisations to return to Pelton Community Centre following the national lockdowns throughout 2020/21.

Physical Activity, Mental Health and Wellbeing - The AAP lent its support to a number of schemes under this theme in 2020/21 including: the provision of funding for capital works at the Community Wellbeing Centre in Sacriston, a scheme through Culture4Kids to deliver nationally recognised qualifications in arts to 60 children living in the Chester-le-Street area, a walk and talk programme in primary schools and a post Covid mental health support programme through PACT House.

Food Provision - In 2020, over £85,000 was allocated through the AAP to projects involving at least some element of food provision in response to the Covid emergency. Projects ranged from the provision or hot meals and food parcels to later on, when restrictions were lifted, provision of activities with food for children and young people in the area. Projects were spread across the AAP area and were delivered through organisations including REfUSE, Handcrafted, Neuroactive, Food4Thought Sacriston, Pelton Community Centre and Park View School.
