Rhythm Not Blues 

A volunteer-based group led by a trained music therapist required funding to expand their sessions for socially isolated older people.  This helped to tackle dementia and associated health issues for older people through music and movement and dance. It's anticipated that up to 55 individuals will participate in this project over the year.

Market Activity Week

Market Activity Week is a free to participate, five-day event held 10am - 3pm in August during the summer holidays, delivered in partnership with Durham Constabulary. Activities such as climbing walls, face painting, bucking bronco, ping ball shooting ranges are all designed to build relationships between young people and the agencies such as the Police and Fire & Rescue, to convey important messages around crime and community safety to the public. The event has recently received funding for a ninth year, it is estimated that 10,000 people attend annually.

Man v Fat - Adult Football League

Join the League where the losers win!

Man v Fat in partnership with Chester-le-Street & District AAP, DCC Sport & Culture team, Durham County FA and Wellbeing for Life, supported a 'first of it's kind in County Durham' approach to men's health. 

Man v Fat is a football league for men who want to lose weight and get healthier. Uniquely, the league is decided not just on points won but also on pounds lost. 24/7 support and inspiration was provided to help men lose weight, get fitter, meet new people and enjoy the beautiful game. Through this approach 95% of players lose weight and get fitter.


Durham Cricket with support from the Chester-le-Street & District AAP hosted a community festival in Chester-le-Streets' Riverside Park the on the 22nd and 23rd June which was the weekend before the Cricket World Cup. The festival included various food and drink vendors as well as there being live music and activities. The festival aimed to showcase what the local community could offer. A community hub was set up where local businesses could promote their trade and get exposure to their products from people attending the event. The festival ran from 11am to 9pm on Saturday 22nd June and 11am to 6pm on Sunday 23rd June. 

Christmas Lights Switch On 2018 Event

Once again, the AAP organised a 'Switch On Event' in the Market Place. Entertainment for all the family was provided before the Christmas Tree lights were switched on. Winners of the colouring competition switched on the lights.

AGE UK County Durham - Information & Advice

A Case Worker has been employed to encourage and assist older people and their carers to claim their welfare benefit entitlements, helping and empowering them to find solutions to problems, make informed choices and connect to services which can help them to maintain/improve their physical and/or mental wellbeing and quality of life, and retain their independence. The case Worker also provides information on a wide range of topics including welfare benefits, housing, community care, social services, health, and leisure/social opportunities.
