Due to essential maintenance, the following systems will be unavailable from 6.00pm on Monday 2 October until 8.00am on Tuesday 3 October: our online council tax, business rates and housing benefit services, and our welfare assistance form. You will also not be able to register to pay council tax online, make a change of address for council tax or cancel single person discount. You are still able to make a payment during this time. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Our car parks offer free parking after 2.00pm. This does not include Durham City Park and Ride, Hardwick Park, Wharton Park and Riverside Park (South Ropery Lane, North Ropery Lane and the Donald Owen Clark car parks) and car parks that we do not own.

Controlled Parking Areas (CPAs)

Parking within the CPAs is restricted to permit holders between certain hours. Outside these times, parking is free to any drivers, including during bank holidays.

We have CPAs in Framwellgate Moor, North End, Chester-le-Street and Bishop Auckland.

Please contact us if you need further information.

The Parking Shop opening hours to the public are Monday to Friday 8.30am to 5.30pm, with the last permit application at 5.30pm.

Permit types

If you do not display a valid permit during the scheme times, you may get a parking fine (Penalty Charge Notice).

If you find you are not eligible for a permit, you may wish to consider using Co-wheels Car Club, a not-for-profit organisation that allows you to book cars in advance for personal use.
