Sometimes an adult or young person (aged over 16 years) finds it difficult or impossible to live independently. This may be because they have:

  • a learning disability
  • mental health needs
  • a physical disability or sensory impairment

Living with a Shared Lives provider, means that they don't have to be in residential care or live in isolation. Shared Lives providers share their home and provide care and support to the person living with them.

The level of care varies depending on the person's needs, but usually includes personal care, independence skills and helping them to take part in community activities.

Living with a Shared Lives provider can help people to build and continue friendships and live as part of their local community, giving them a sense of wellbeing in a safe and supportive environment.
