Aycliffe Secure Centre - information for parents and carers

We provide a secure home for both male and female young people aged 10-18 who have been admitted to our home through the courts or by councils on a welfare basis (known as Section 25).

This may be because they are a risk to themselves or others, or because there is a concern about their involvement with criminal activities.

The decision to place your child at Aycliffe Secure Centre could be for many reasons. Our role is to keep them safe while our care staff and professionals assess their needs to let us work with them. This work is aimed at giving them the skills to make good choices in the future. You will be kept up to date regularly as we get to know your child.

Who will support your child

All young people will have an identified 'key worker', who will work closely with them and coordinate their care. The key worker is responsible for making sure your child's needs are met on a day-to-day basis and will also help to prepare them for leaving our centre.

The key worker will work with your child to find out what they want to achieve in relation to education, health, leisure activities and developing a wide range of life skills.

What the centre is like

Our centre is divided into five separate homes. Each of the homes can house between six to eight young people. Your child will have their own bedroom which can be personalised with posters and family pictures and the bedroom has an en suite toilet and shower.

We have a wide range of facilities including:

  • our own school
  • lounge area, dining area, kitchen, bathroom/shower and toilets
  • computer and games area, craft and art activity area
  • swimming pool, gym/fitness room, sports hall
  • all-weather sports pitch
  • courtyards for games and activities
