From 28 September, no more than 15 people can attend a wedding or civil ceremony.

You can give your notice of marriage/civil partnership for weddings taking place up to 31 December 2020. To make an appointment, contact us on 03000 266 000. Please do not visit our register offices without making an appointment first.

We are accepting wedding and civil partnership bookings for 2020 for our register offices and licensed venues in line with current government guidance.

All naming ceremonies and non-statutory celebrations are still suspended. Email any queries you have to theceremonyteam@durham.gov.uk.

You can order birth, death, marriage and civil partnership certificates online or over the phone.

The number of guests allowed for ceremonies at Bishop Auckland register office is currently restricted. See the changes to weddings and civil partnerships information on our Getting married and Arranging a civil partnership pages for the latest guidance.

You can choose to hold your ceremony in:

  • the ceremony room which holds up to 25 people
  • the register office (for a less formal ceremony)

Parking is usually available on the main road and on smaller side roads. There is also a small public park opposite for photographs and for guests to congregate after the ceremony.

You can book ceremonies on weekdays, weekends or public holidays - contact us to find out what dates are available.
