Book a gym session

Please check how busy gyms are before you set off. You do not need to book gym sessions in advance.

You will need to book online  for outdoor fitness classes, swimming and some weights.

Members

Remember to bring your thrive membership card with you so that you can swipe to enter the gym and  before you set off for your session.

Non members

If you don't have a leisure membership, you can still attend the leisure centre and pay for your session when you arrive. Please  before you set off for your session.

Lost cards (members and non members)

If you've lost your card, please email csleisuremanagement@durham.gov.uk and we'll order a replacement card for you.

Information about your session

You can stay as long as you like for your gym session and we ask that you are considerate during busy periods.

Our staff in the gym will assist you and monitor gym areas to ensure social distancing is maintained. This may mean that some areas within the gym may become full and you may need to wait before you can access certain areas.

If you are attending for weights at Abbey, Chester-le-Street, Meadowfield and Spennymoor Leisure Centres please book online in advance of your visit. Weights areas in our other leisure centres are part of the gym and you are not required to book in advance. However, there may be a wait during busy periods.

Cancel if you can't attend your weights session

Please remember to cancel your class or session if you're not able to attend. If possible give a minimum of 12 hours notice, so that someone else can book the place. Login to your account, as if you are going to book your weights session online to cancel your session.

How to use the leisure centres safely

We have extra staff in our leisure centres to support you in following the new arrangements.

We have signs in place to help you move safely around the centre and have a strict cleaning regime in place along with extra hand sanitiser and cleaning stations.

Some of our gym equipment has been moved and safety screens put in place to help you socially distance, and we are limiting the numbers of people and movement during classes.

What you must know before you arrive

To ensure your safety and the safety of others, you must:

  • Pre-book outdoor class and swim sessions. If you are visiting the gym please  before your visit.
  • Arrive five minutes before your session start time - if you arrive late, you will have to re-book a later session.
  • Arrive wearing clothing suitable for your activity - changing rooms and showers are closed and only a small number of lockers are available on request.
  • Bring your own belts and chalk for the gym as these are not provided.
  • Bring your own drink - water fountains are not available.
  • Do not bring towels or bags to either the gym or any fitness class.
  • Wear your mask in the centres and whilst moving around the gym.

Please do not attend if you are displaying any symptoms of Covid-19 - see what to do if you think you have Coronavirus, which includes common symptoms.

How to enter the building

  • Follow social distancing signs that are displayed outside and inside our leisure centres.
  • You may need to queue outside until your session is due to start.
  • Our staff will give you guidance on entering the building.
  • On entering, you must sanitise your hands, scan your card and check-in with our team. When you check-in, we'll confirm that we have your correct details, so that we can support NHS test and trace.

How to clean the equipment

There will be instructions around the leisure centre explaining how to clean your equipment and our staff will be there to advise you.

  • Clean before and after you use a piece of equipment.
  • Use the paper towel and cleaning product at the cleaning stations provided.
  • Spray the paper towel with the cleaning product.
  • Make sure you clean all touch points such as screens, handles and pads, starting from the top of the equipment and finishing on the seat.
  • Put your dirty paper towel straight into the bins provided.
  • Please wipe the floor if any cleaning product is spilt and tell a member of our team.

How to leave the building

  • You must leave the building before the end of your booking slot - please make sure you are ready to leave ten minutes before the end. We will work with you to help you leave on time.

Additional support

If you require extra support to access our leisure centres, or if you attend with a carer please contact your leisure centre to arrange.

How we are keeping our buildings safe

We are continually reviewing government guidance to make sure that we operate in a covid-19 secure way. We are working with the council's building and facilities maintenance team to ensure the correct safety measures are in place to make our venues as safe as possible. Weekly checks are carried out and any changes needed, to keep members safe or in response to any change in government guidelines, are made. In addition to our weekly checks our staff carry out hourly checks of the building to ensure we are compliant and operating in a covid-19 secure way.
