Online council meetings

Published May 14, 2018 9.53am

Public meetings held by our councillors will be streamed live on the internet once we complete our move to a new headquarters.

The announcement comes after a consultation earlier in the year which showed support for the idea. More than 800 people joined in with the consultation with over 60% also asking that the meetings be broadcast live on both the web and social media.

As a result a cross party group of councillors agreed that the equipment needed for the meetings to be broadcast will now be included in the plan for our new headquarters. It was also agreed that it would be impractical to provide filming in County Hall as the facilities are not suitable.

The decision to move from County Hall to smaller, more affordable, city centric accommodation was agreed by Cabinet in January in order to enable the redevelopment of the Aykley Heads site.

Aykley Heads aims to create up to 6,000 new jobs and a £400 million economic boost for the county with the creation of a new business district.
