Central and East Durham Master plans
Find out more about the developments that are taking place in Durham City, Peterlee and Seaham, and download the Master plan update for each of these areas.
Riverside development
The redevelopment of the Milburngate House site and The Gates is set to completely transform the area, with brand new restaurants, cinemas, office space and housing.
This new-look riverside will also provide stunning views of Durham's historical beating heart, while bringing some modern architectural beauty to the banks of the Wear.
The relocation of the Passport Office and National Savings to Freeman's Reach helped retain about 1,200 jobs and was the biggest Government property contract outside of London.
We've taken a 35 year head lease on the scheme, providing certainty in the longer term as well as generating income.
Lumiere returns in 2019
The city's biennial Lumiere is now recognised as the biggest and best light festival in the UK.

New watersports and activity centre
The new £900,000 centre is based at Seaham Harbour Marina.
Seaham Harbour Marina is a joint venture project between us and the Victoria Group (port of Seaham owners) and is managed by Seaham harbour Community Interest Fund (CiC).
We've secured funding from Sports England to help the CiC set up a full range of activities, including stand up paddle-boarding and kayaking, supervised by trained professionals.
