Transformation of Abbey Leisure Centre
Find out about our exciting Leisure Transformation plans for Abbey Leisure Centre.
Earlier in the year we asked for your views on some proposed changes to Abbey Leisure Centre and refurbishment works are now underway.
Refurbishment works
We are carrying out significant improvement works to the leisure centre including a fun new adventure play zone featuring soft play, an interactive tag obstacle course area and trampolines. This exciting new facility will encourage young people to be more physically active and have fun.
A new fitness suite will be created by bringing together the existing fitness spaces into one dedicated area. The new area will include cardiovascular and weights equipment as well as separate group exercise studios. This will help us to make the most of space across the venue, allow us to add new equipment and technology to improve the overall centre experience.
A new wellbeing suite will include a specialist range of power assisted equipment that provides users with a 'helping hand' to enable them to exercise and maintain movement for longer periods of time. This suite will provide a unique exercise and rehabilitation solution perfect for people who are older, suffering from long term health conditions, recovering from injury or who are returning to exercise.
Works will also include refurbishment of the changing rooms and sauna. We will also be introducing a new food and drink facility serving healthy food options.
We are also carrying out some additional works on the roof which have been identified following surveys and investigations. The additional roof repairs are necessary to prevent further water damage due to leaks.
Timescales
The leisure centre is planned to reopen in Summer 2023.
