Swimming is a great way for people of all ages and abilities to have fun, relax, compete, get fit, stay active and feel great. Being able to swim can help save lives and can give you the confidence to enjoy other water-based activities.

What's available at our swimming pools?

February swimming membership offers

This February we have two fantastic offers for those looking for a great way to get healthy.

Customers who join as a swimming member on a non-contract membership will receive their first three months half price or they can sign up to a 12 month membership and receive six months half price.

We provide a wide range of activities across nine swimming pools, including:

We are also the home of several swimming and aquatic clubs across the county. The six leisure centres listed below have 25 metre pools and a learner pool, except Spennymoor which is a leisure pool with a wave machine and water slide.

Sink 2 Swim

Our new Sink 2 Swim programme is a great 12 week challenge which you can take part in at your local Durham County Council leisure centre. The following swimming pools are operated by Leisure Works (Derwentside Trust for Sport and Arts) in conjunction with us. For more information please visit the Leisureworks website.

Your family's safety - supervising children

Your family's safety is a top priority. Children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult. You must also supervise children taking into account their swimming ability and the water depth. We operate an admissions policy to ensure a safe environment for everyone:

Other activities

  • Amateur swimming clubs operate out of most centres.
  • Our leisure centres offer a wide range of water-based activities, from water polo to kayaking, scuba diving to synchronised swimming, and sea-doos to octopush.

Dementia friendly swimming

If you are living with dementia or care for someone who does, come along and take part in one of our Dementia friendly swimming sessions, taking place at Freeman's Quay, Chester-le-Street, Spennymoor and Teesdale leisure centres.
