Cremation, woodland burial, or dissolving under pressure are actual or potential options open to us as we imagine ourselves as dead. How do these possibilities align with our sense of destiny and dignity at a time when apparent freedom of choice and political constraint underlie life and death in today’s Britain?

Miniature Worlds Contemporary Craft Exhibition

An exhibition of work by 12 UK and international artists which explores our obsession with all things miniature!

Theatre: Smalls Talk and Singing in the Wilderness

Bishop Auckland Theatre Society present
Theatre: Smalls Talk and Singing in the Wilderness

The society presents two one-act plays back to back!

‘Smalls Talk’: Five ladies of different ages and backgrounds meet for a Lingerie party where the frosty atmosphere is thawed and tongues loosened when the ladies decide to give their hostess a makeover in the hope she can regain the affections of her errant husband.
‘Singing in the Wilderness’: The fairies we know and love from A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Peter Pan are living under constant attack from the hazard of waste caused by humans.
They soon find themselves faced with the prospect of living their lives in public view, but can they escape before it’s too late?

Meet the Author

Peter Hemming will talk about his book "Oil Paint and Greece: Memories of Kefalonia" and there will be a raffle to win a signed copy of the book.

The affray, which was known as The Battle of Stanhope, was immortalised in song before becoming the inspiration for an award-winning play by celebrated singer-songwriter Jim Woodland. Originally produced by Jack Drum Arts, “The Bonny Moorhen” was the focus of a hugely successful community play performed in a barn on the banks of the River Wear in 2012. Now, in a new version, created specially for Festival of the North East, the story will be played out promenade style on site at Killhope Leadmining Museum. “Nothing short of pure brilliance” Weardale Gazette, April 2012.

Quilt Making in the Yurt at Killhope

Quilt Making – 16 June and 30 June - £100 for both sessions.
