Louisa Centre revamp

We have recently completed work on refurbishing the Louisa Centre's leisure facilities, and have brought services together by relocating Stanley Customer Access Point (CAP) and Stanley library here.

What are the changes?

  • Improved access to library and customer access point services.
  • Improved leisure facilities (managed by Leisureworks) at the Louisa Centre.
  • Reduction to our costs by having a number of services in the same place.

The project was carried out in five phases:

Phase one: soft play area

The existing Louisa Lagoon soft play area was extended on level 2, to include a new Little Lagoon soft play area for under 5s (previously located on level 5).

Phase two: relocation of the New Horizons Suite and Health and Wellbeing services

Services on level 5 of the centre including the bar, Little Lagoon soft play area and board room were closed. The New Horizons Suite has been relocated to this area alongside the centre's Health and Wellbeing services and a new meeting room.

Phase three: aerobics studio

The vacated room on level 5 has been refurbished and become the new space for aerobics classes.

Phase four: gym and weights room

There are now new gym and weight room facilities.

The squash courts are now closed and nearest facilities are at Consett Leisure Centre.

Phase five: Customer Access Point and library

Refurbishment work has converted the previous gym and weights room and squash court areas on level 2 of the centre into the new Customer Access Point and library, with a new larger reception desk.
