Welcome

Simon Henig

As Leader of the Council I have a demanding role in helping set the priorities of the Council. We have a particularly challenging time at the moment in preparing the Council for Unitary Status in April 2009 when one council will be responsible for all local authority services throughout the county. We have recently appointed a new Chief Executive and Corporate Directors who, together with their staff, will implement the necessary changes to provide the excellent services which the people of County Durham deserve.

I meet many local groups and organisations to find out how we can work together and I also represent the Council on county, regional and national organisations to encourage partnership working, promote County Durham and get the best deal for our area. To give you an insight into my work you can view my diary for the coming week and in ‘leader talk’ I will let you know about major issues from the previous week.
