For the Record - Tuesday 25 October 2016

This week we have passed two important milestones in providing young people in the county with the best possible chance in life. As a council we helped our 1,000th apprentice into employment by working with the private sector and our DurhamWorks initiative has seen more than 1,000 16-24 year olds sign up for our help already.

Latest figures show almost one in seven 16-24 year olds in the county are not in employment, education or training. The DurhamWorks Programme complements our apprenticeship scheme and is focussed on working with 17 organisations including training providers and the voluntary and community sector.

We've also recently increased our support for care leavers to help remove the barriers to work and to assist them in reaching their full potential.  So why is this approach good for the county and the county's businesses?
