Transport for the Disabled
What do Transport Services offer?
For many people, getting to use services is a major problem. We run an in-house transport service, specifically for people who are disabled and have problems getting around. We have a number of vehicles which are specially designed for wheelchair users. We can seat between 12 to 22 passengers. Our vehicles are built to high standards and provide seatbelts for all passengers. We fit the vehicles with fire extinguishers, first-aid equipment and all drivers have a mobile phone. We regularly maintain vehicles so they keep to passenger-carry vehicle regulations. All the vehicles have coach-type seats with head rests and fabric-covered side panels.
The vehicles are available at weekends and evenings and on some weekdays between 11.00am and 3.00pm. Your journeys do not have to be in County Durham and we frequently make trips further. We can also give suggestions for trips, which are suitable for disabled people. Our costs are very reasonable and you can ask us for a free quotation.
Access Bus
The Access Bus operates in most of the rural areas in County Durham providing a door-to-door service for people who have problems using public transport or have some problems getting out and about. You can book a place on the bus, which will take people to and from destinations such as the Metro Centre, Washington Galleries, Arnison Centre and Chester-le-Street by registering for the service. If you would like to know more about our services, please contact:
