Scientific Services

Scientific Services provide a testing and advisory service to Durham County Council and other local authorities in the North of England. Our UKAS accredited service is also available to private businesses and members of the public. Our laboratory is appointed as one of the EU Official Food Testing Laboratories.


We have an extensive range of equipment and instrumentation with specific expertise in the following areas of testing:

Our Staff

Our Team is made up of Alan Richards (Public Analyst and Head of Scientific Services), Nigel Payne (Public Analyst and Laboratory Manager) and Anne Howe (Quality Manager)

We will usually provide you with a quotation for routine work straight away, or within 24 hours for larger projects or unusual requests. Location

Our laboratory is located in the ancillary building which is to the left of the main County Hall building, on the outskirts of Durham City. Please see the site map and area map for details.
