Current Fees
The legal preliminaries to all civil (and some church) marriages requires both bride and groom to complete a Notice of Marriage. There is a charge for this of £30.00 each.
A further charge is likely to be made by the owners of the building for the use of the premises. This fee needs to be paid to the Superintendent Registrar at least 3 weeks before the ceremony is due to take place.

Marriage and Civil Partnerships at the Register Office - Bishop Auckland only, with effect from 1 April 2008
The fee to be paid is £43.50.

The fee to be paid is:
- £75.00 - Monday to Friday
- £100.00 - Saturday Morning
- £175.00 - Saturday afternoon.
- £200.00 - Sunday.
- £200.00 - Bank Holiday.

The fee to be paid is:- £250.00 - Monday to Friday.
- £310.00 Saturday.
- £365.00 - Sunday.
- £365.00 - Bank Holiday.

Approved Premises Licence Fee
The fee for approving premises as venues for marriages and civil partnerships is £1400.00, with effect from 1 April 2008. Once granted the licence will be valid for three years.Fee for a Birth Certificate
After a birth has been registered, a short birth certificate showing the name, sex, date and district of birth is issued free of charge. The short certificate meets most ordinary needs but a full birth certificate, which is a complete copy of the register entry, is also available.
