Local Transport Plan

All local authorities are required to produce a 5-year Local Transport Plan (LTP) which outlines the future of transport in the county. Within this comprehensive document our long term vision and programme are set out.

We are currently in the period of the second Plan, LTP2 (2006-11), and this Plan continues to build on the achievements of the first Plan (LTP1 2001-06).

The Plan, which is endorsed by the County Durham Transport Partnership Forum, has been prepared in partnership with local organisations including district councils, bus operators, those with transport related interests and members of the public.

Major Schemes

There are a number of Major Schemes throughout the county, which are those normally costing more than £5million. A number of other schemes (costing under £5million) are included in this section as they represent significant investments in the transport infrastructure of the County.

Minor Schemes

One of the budgets within the 5-year LTP2 programme, New Infrastructure – Minor Schemes, is intended to fund minor schemes designed to improve the capacity and/or safety of the highway network
