Achievement Services

This comprise of 3 service areas:

  • Education Development Service (EDS) - The main functions are statutory monitoring, challenge and intervention and traded services of negotiation/consultancy, off-site learning and training and development activities and contracted advisory work with schools. It also includes the County’s School Music Service which provides instrumental tuition, ensemble work and music related professional development. In addition, the EDS inspects schools outside of County Durham for OfSTED and works with national and international organisations to deliver accredited programmes across and beyond the County.
  • Information and Technical Support Service ITSS provides technical support through the following customer services:
    • Support for School Management Information Systems – MIS.
    • Support for Education Management Systems (EMS) across former Education Services.
    • Support for curriculum development to improve learning and teaching.
    • Support for schools with ICT systems and repairs.
ITSS also provides a wide range of technical services including gas, electrical and mechanical appliance servicing, portable appliance testing and other health and safety-related work.
  • The School and Governor Support Service provides support for statutory governance responsibilities including recruitment of governors and, in this role, advises schools, head teachers, governing bodies, other CYPS teams and Elected Members. In addition, the Service provides a range of services to governing bodies via Service Level Agreement arrangements. It also supports the work of the Durham County Association of Governors through clerical assistance to the executive and its network of ten cluster groups.
