Pedestrian Casualties

There were 241 pedestrian casualties in 2006, 16 less than last years figure of 257. Of the 241 pedestrian casualties, 1 was fatally injured, 42 were seriously injured and 198 received slight injuries, a large number being children. Road safety training can help reduce pedestrian accidents amongst the young but this sector of casualties is largely dependent upon individuals making the correct, safe choice when on the roads.

Pedestrians involved in road accidents have a higher chance of sustaining serious injury than almost every other category of road user, with around 18% involving fatal or serious injuries as opposed to 13% of the county casualty total.
