County Durham Kerbside Recycling Schemes

Why Recycle?

The quantity of waste generated in County Durham each year can fill Durham Cathedral more than 30 times over! Over 280,000 tonnes of household waste is produced in the County every year and much of this ends up being buried in the ground, in landfill sites.

Even though most of the rubbish within our wheeled bins can be recovered and made into new products we still don't recycle enough of our household waste.

Sorting rubbish at home and using separate containers for collection is the most practical and cost effective way to recycle household rubbish. By taking part in your local kerb side scheme you will help with the recycling of rubbish in a more environmentally friendly way. There are two separate kerb side schemes operating in County Durham:

Please click on the links below to access your District Council’s website for information about their respective kerb side collection schemes.
