Verges
We carry out grass cutting twice annually in rural locations and up to five times per year in urban areas on highway verges. We will cut back the verges in visibility splays throughout the year, as and when it is required. We will consider the needs of wildlife, which may require the careful timing of verge trimming at certain times of the year.
The district and borough councils carry out their own grass cutting operations on non-highway land.
Our weed control is carried out approximately twice a year by spraying, generally in spring and autumn. These operations generally cover channels, gullies, footways and grassed areas. However, we also spray once a year for persistent weeds, at an appropriate time during the summer. This is dependent on the local weather conditions.
Pollution Control Interceptors are sited to catch pollutants from the carriageway in a few known problem areas.
If you wish to report a problem, contact our Highways Action Line.
