Under 14 Bus Card
What It's About
The County Durham Under 14 Bus Card proves you are entitled to half price bus travel. It is valid until your 14th birthday (please see details below for details of travels schemes after age 14).You don't have to have a card but it will help if you are having problems proving your age to bus drivers.
There is no charge for County Durham Under 14 Bus Card.
Who can apply?
If you are under 14 and live in County Durham you can get a card.
The County Durham Under 14 Card can be used:
- For all bus journeys in County Durham. You can also travel to and from adjoining areas so long as you get on or off at a stop in County Durham.
- Any time, any day.
What Happens When You Are 14?
Young people aged 14-16 can apply for a Investing in Children Travel Card. This lets you pay half fare on all buses after 5pm on school days, and anytime during school holidays and weekends.

How You Can get your Under 14 Bus Card
Fill in the application form and contact either your school or Durham County Council. You can download and fill in the Under 14 Travel Card application form below and post it to us. This is a pdf document and you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view this information.

If your school is issuing Under 14 Cards (see list below) just follow these 3 simple steps:
- Fill out the application form (available from your school or by phoning tel: 0191 3725386).
- Obtain a passport size photograph.
- Take your application to your school.
From Durham County Council
If your school is not issuing Under 14 Cards you can send your completed application form to Durham County Council with:
- A passport size photograph.
- Proof of date of birth eg. Copy of birth certificate or passport (please do not send originals as they will be returned to you, by post at your own risk).
