Proposed Speed Limit Increase - Finchale Road, Pity Me

Following ongoing concerns of inappropriate speed of vehicles in Brasside which have been raised by County Councillor Burlison, a number of measures have been considered to calm vehicle speeds. Due to these roads having direct access to Frankland Prison, physical traffic calming measures are not appropriate. Detailed investigations have shown the existing speed limit as having a lack of credibility in the eyes of motorists, resulting in inappropriate high speeds. It is therefore proposed to raise the speed limit from its current level of 30 MPH to 40 MPH. This increase in the limit will enable us to provide repeater signage along the lengths of road in question.

It will also enable us to highlight the entry to built-up areas with 30 MPH signage and additional measures. The result of this will be to focus the motorists attention to the lower speed limit. Previous experience of an increase in the speed limit such as is being proposed has shown that motorists are more likely to observe the speed limit, and have also resulted in lower speeds being recorded.

The consultation period for the above proposals has now ended, and further details on the scheme will appear here as soon as they become available.
