School Keep Clear Markings

The over-riding priority for Durham County Council around schools is the safety of children. There are no special arrangements allowing parents to set down and pick up school children in any location and any parents choosing to take their children to school by car must obey the parking regulations in place.

Where single or double yellow lines are present drivers can stop to pick up or drop off children, but waiting for passengers is not permitted. When picking up or dropping off your children you must stay with your vehicle at all times unless your children need help getting into or out of your vehicle. The children must be ready to leave as soon as you arrive, otherwise you must move your vehicle to an appropriate parking place. If you have to wait for the children to be released or a teacher wishes to speak to you, you must move your vehicle to a parking place and if required display a valid permit or pay and display ticket.

Outside of the vast majority of schools in the county however, yellow coloured School Keep Clear markings have been provided. No vehicle, including those displaying a blue badge, is allowed to stop on these markings for any reason during the hours stated on the accompanying sign plates.

Any vehicle parking on these markings may be issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice.

If you have received a Fixed Penalty Notice you should contact Durham Constabulary on 0845 6060365.
