Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ)
What is a CPZ?
A CPZ is an area where special parking restrictions apply. The purpose of the Durham City CPZ is to reduce and control the problems of long stay parking by commuters and office workers thus creating space for short stay visitors such as shoppers and tourists as well as residents and their visitors.

How Does a CPZ Work?
Large signs informing you that you are entering a CPZ are displayed as you enter the zone. Within the zone all parking is controlled. There are no unrestricted parking areas; every bay is reserved for a specific purpose.When parking in a CPZ, always check for the sign or bay markings stating what parking is allowed and at what time.
Many of the parking restrictions found with the Durham City CPZ are the same as those found when parking on the streets of County Durham and England. However, with in the Durham City CPZ you will also find:
All pay and display bays and £30 fixed daily charge areas are restricted 8.00am to 6.00pm Monday to Saturday. Parking is free outside of these hours and on bank holidays.
