Resources
What is School-run.org?
School-run.org is an on-line resource which can be used by parents to find like-minded parents who would like to share the ‘school run’. The scheme is secure, free for parents to use and enables them to find travel companions for any sort of school run journey – on foot, on bike or in the car. The aim of the scheme is to encourage more sustainable forms of transport and so reduce congestion, pollution and the incidence of childhood obesity. How Does it Work?
Schools and local authorities can purchase a school-run scheme for as little as £200 per annum. Once the scheme has been set up, parents need to be informed that the scheme is available. They can then register their journey details and, once a representative from the school approves the parent, they are sent a password, which enables them to search the database for other parents from the same school with whom to share the school run. Parents then contact each other via e-mail, by telephone or in person and arrange to take it in turns to transport or escort the children to school. What Are the Benefits?
- Reduced travel costs for parents.
- Reduced time spent on the school run.
- Reduced congestion and pollution around school at peak times.
- Reduced incidence of childhood obesity.
- Increased opportunities for parents and children to become involved in the school community.
- Increased opportunities to change travel behaviour.
Safety and Security
- School-run.org has been designed to be as safe and as secure as possible.
- Information is only gathered about parents and no information is required about children.
- All information is used in line with the Data Protection Act.
- Parents will only be put in touch with other parents from the same school.
- Each school can determine the level of security for their scheme.
