Travel Planning Team

The Travel Planning team is based in the Strategic Traffic Studies Section in Environment, County Hall, Durham. The Travel Planning team develop Travel Plans with both schools and businesses. The team consists of the following members:

Alison Lonsdale – School Travel Plan Advisor
Noreen Youll – School Travel Plan Advisor
Esther Brooks – Travel Plan Advisor

Each School Travel Plan Advisor is allocated to a specific district across the County. These districts are as follows:

  • Noreen Youll covers the districts of Chester-le-Street, Easington, Sedgefield, and Teesdale
  • Alison Lonsdale covers the districts of Derwentside, Durham City, and Wear Valley.

A School Travel Plan Advisor can support your school through every step of the School Travel Planning process; from an initial expression of interest, through the submission for the Capital Grant and beyond, for the rest of the life of the Plan.

They:

  • Support the school with its draft School Travel Plan.
  • Advise on the surveying of pupils and parents to establish current travel patterns.
  • Assist with the setting up a School Travel Planning Working Group.
  • Advise the School Travel Planning Working Group on initiatives and measures that can address the school’s travel issues.
  • Liaise with the school to help the Working Group complete the School Travel Plan document.
  • Give advice on implementing initiatives and measures that support the aims and objectives of the School Travel Plan.
  • Support the School Travel Planning Working Group with the annual review of the School Travel Plan.
  • Give advice on the monitoring of the School Travel Plan.
