Do it Different in Derwentside – Monday September 22, 2008 – Part of European Mobility Week.
On Monday, September 22, Durham County Council will be encouraging people who either live, work or go to school in, Derwentside to try travelling by means other than the car for journeys on that day. We will also be working with key employers to encourage them to encourage their staff to try travelling differently. You may work in Newcastle or Gateshead or, indeed Durham, but if you live in Derwentside, we still want you to try a more sustainable way of getting to work on that day. Anybody who does try travelling by a different means on the day is asked to complete a simple questionnaire to let us know what they did. Anybody travelling differently, has a chance of winning 1 of 5 exciting prizes provided that they complete the questionaire by 2 October 2008.
September 16 to 22 is European Mobility Week; with September 22 being In Town Without my Car Day.
During European Mobility week citizens across all of Europe will be looking at how they travel and how, by making small changes, they can travel more sustainably. The theme this year is Clean Air for All. Emissions from transport contribute significantly to pollution which affects us all through their effect on our health and on the climate.
