Guidance For Choosing a Roofer

Consumer surveys have shown cowboy roofers have long been a problem for householders. Advice staff have often had requests for help following problems with work carried out by so-called professional roofers. Sometimes people are targeted by a rogue roofer saying they have noticed a broken or missing tile when in fact, in many instances, this is not the case and the repair work they claim is needed is totally unnecessary. Consumers who are looking to avoid choosing a ‘rogue trader’ when searching for a roofing contractor can access some useful new guidance to help them avoid the pitfalls of making an unwise choice.

Ideally consumers should make a contract in writing with the roofer. It should outline the work to be done, date of completion, security and safety, disposal of waste materials, hours of working and so on. Below is detailed guidance and an example of a simple contract which can be used
