Just One Call

The Travel Response Centre has brought together all of Durham County Council’s demand responsive transport services into one easy booking system using just one telephone number:

Centre staff and drivers are fully trained and computer software ensures your booking is made quick and easy.

As Easy as ABC

A - A sophisticated computer system displays the number of seats available on a particular vehicle at any one time.

B - Visual mapping zooms down to street level to identify the best available route, journey time, pick up and drop off points for your travel needs and a booking can then be made for you on the vehicle.

C - The selected vehicle’s driver then automatically receives your booking and journey details through an in-vehicle screen.

When you call you will be asked the following questions:

• Your name, address, postcode.
• Where you wish to travel to.
• Where you wish to travel from.
• The time you wish to travel.
• Any particular travel needs you have, i.e. are you a wheelchair user? Will you be taking an escort?

Accessible Minibus Services

You can now book the following services through our Transport Booking Centre:

Shoppers Access Bus

A weekly door-to-door shoppers bus service for members unable to use conventional public transport due to a mobility disability. The Access Bus scheme is now available throughout the County travelling to a variety of destinations.

Hospital Access

Access bus for hospital visiting. Schemes cover Bishop Auckland Hospital from Cockfield and Evenwood, Hartlepool Hospital from Easington/Peterlee areas and University Hospital North Durham from surrounding villages.

Health Appointments

Access bus to doctors/health surgeries. Operates in the Langley Park/Lanchester/Burnhope/Tow Law and Esh Winning areas.

Durham Dales Healthy Living Partnership Bus

A 16 seat minibus sponsored by the Durham Dales HLP for community group hire in Teesdale, Wear Valley and Weardale.

Central Durham Transhare Minibus

A 16 seat minibus available for group community hire in West Cornforth and surrounding areas.

Durham County Council Vehicle Sharing Minibus

A 16 seat minibus available for hire by community groups throughout the County.

Bracken Hill Taxibus

A public travel to work bookable taxibus scheme for employees at Bracken Hill Business Park, Peterlee and surrounding Industrial Estates.

Serving Spennymoor Industrial Estate – a travel to work service for people living in Crook or Willington.

South Derwentside Taxibus

Serving Hownsgill, Delves, No. 1, Greencroft and Tanfield Lea Industrial Estates – a travel to work service for people living in South Derwentside (villages south of Burnhope)

This large-scale project covers a number of different transport providers and aims to make better use of vehicles and staff to reduce the time taken for you to book a seat on our services.
