Supported Housing provide socially valued ordinary housing which promotes independence and results in fulfilling lives for adults with a learning disability. Supported Housing also ensures adequate support to meet the individuals assessed needs.

The aims of Supported Housing are based on the Government Legislation, Principles of Valuing People, these are:

  • To have the same rights as anyone else.
  • To be as independent as possible.
  • To have more choice.
  • To be included in all aspects of Community life.

Things We Will Support You With

  • Having your own bedroom.
  • Having your own house key.
  • Choosing your decoration and furnishings.
  • To mange your income, support with shopping, paying bills and household chores.

  • Social and leisure activities, and holidays.
  • Having friends and relatives to visit, or staying with or visiting relatives.
  • Making decisions about what goes on in your house.
  • To be self medicating wherever possible.
  • Accessing new ventures within community facilities.
  • Consultation will take place in the appointment of new staff.
  • Comments, Compliments and Complaints procedure.
  • Consultation with Management.

Is Supported Housing the Right Choice for Me?

Supported Housing may be a suitable option for you to consider if you would still like to retain the privacy of your own home, but having the reassurance that your individual needs will be met.

When people move into Supported Housing they undertake an assured tenancy for the house. Any concerns you may have about undertaking a tenancy can be discussed with your respective manager or Social Worker.

How do I apply?

Durham County Council Social Care and Health services have established a detailed process for anyone wishing to apply to become a tenant of Supported Housing.
