Newtown House was opened in 1951 and is set off the road in pleasant grounds. The home was recently refurbished and is a lovely old property in an idyllic setting by the River Wear with large garden in which to walk or sit.

A Day Centre is attached to Newtown House that offers many activities as well as entertainment. A good community spirit exists and a sense of "ownership" of the home in the neighbourhood is emphasised by the popularity of open days and garden fetes organised by staff. Trips, concerts and outings are arranged regularly. The staff are experienced, friendly and on hand to help at all times.

Newtown House caters for 28 residents and has facilities for two respite care beds.
