Testing of Agricultural Materials

The Official Agricultural Analyst is a statutory appointment made under the Agriculture Act 1970. The Head of Scientific Services holds this post.

Official samples, for testing, are submitted to us by Trading Standards.

Animal Feeding Stuffs and Pet Foods

We carry out routine testing for nutrients, minerals, vitamins, and additives to ensure the levels are within allowed limits of variation. We can also test for contaminants.

Fertilisers

All types are tested to confirm the declared levels of nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium as well as trace minerals.

Pesticides

Commercial and home-use products are checked for labelling and composition.

Soil

We routinely test soils for nutrients, pH and contaminants. Soil from brown field sites is tested for a range of poisons and chemicals which could cause problems during development.
