Exams Information

GCSE and A-level Exams

Here you can find information on the dates for GCSE and A-Level examinations for the coming year.

The links below will take you to the websites of two of the largest examination bodies where you can find their exam timetables. Individual exam dates may vary between exam boards.

The exam results for 2008/09 are expected to become available on the following dates:
  • A-levels - 13 August 2009
  • GCSEs - 20 August 2009
If you have any queries about obtaining your results you should contact your child's primary or secondary school directly. The main exam boards are only able to help over the phone if a college or university place depends on your results. Their numbers are on the websites above. We do not have access to individuals' results at County Hall.

Some schools offer modular GCSEs which have exams in November, January and March. The dates for these exams this academic year are
  • 5 November – 21 November 2008
  • 9 January – 22 January 2009
  • 2 March – 6 March 2009
The results from these will be available on
  • 15 January 2009
  • 12 March 2009 (26 March for Modern Languages)
  • 20 April 2009
The Spring exams for modular A-levels next year will take place in the period 8 January – 30 January 2009. The results from these will be released on 19 March 2009.

The provisional dates for all other GCSE and A-levels next year are currently 11 May - 24 June 2009. Exam boards will confirm these around March 2009. Generally the exam period is the two weeks before and four weeks after the Spring Bank Holiday. The results will be out on 13 August 2009 for A-levels and 20 August 2009 for GCSEs.

Key Stage Examinations

Key Stage examinations for Year 2 (Key Stage 1) and Year 6 (Key Stage 2) take place during May each year. There will not be tests for Year 9 pupils (Key Stage 3) after 2008.
  • Key Stage 1 - the move towards Teacher Assessment-based testing, and away from more formal tests, means you should contact your school directly if you have questions about the timing of this assessment.
  • Key Stage 2 - tests are set to take place between the 11 and 15 May 2009.

If you have any queries about these dates we suggest you contact your child's primary or secondary school directly.
