What are my Rights as a Parent?

Close working between parents, local authorities, schools and others is crucial if children and young people with special educational needs are to achieve the best they can.

The SEN Code of Practice states that as a parent of a child with special educational needs you should be supported to:

  • Fulfil your responsibilities and play an active part in your child’s education.
  • Have knowledge of your child’s entitlement within the SEN framework.
  • Make your views known about how your child is educated.
  • Have access to information, advice and support during assessment and any related decision-making processes about special educational provision.
